800-Ton Lift Marks Key Milestone in Northeast Ohio’s Fight for Cleaner Water
Big things are happening underground in Northeast Ohio as the sixth of seven massive tunnels for the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s Project Clean Lake is underway.

Southerly Tunnel
Crews just spent nearly 12 hours lowering an 800-ton tunnel boring machine (TBM) 193 feet below ground — and PSC Crane & Rigging was on point for the heavy lift.
This milestone marks the start of construction on the Southerly Tunnel, an 18,100-foot-long, 23-foot-wide behemoth that’ll help keep up to 760 million gallons of sewer overflow pollution out of local waterways every year once complete in 2029.
Delivered by McNally Companies and Kiewit, this tunnel is a major part of Project Clean Lake’s long-term goal to reduce over 4 billion gallons of pollution annually by 2036.
