Project Overview:
The project encompassed a large-scale industrial demolition effort across over sixteen acres under roof. The client engaged the PSC team as the general contractor, leading a multi-firm effort alongside eight separate subcontracting companies. The awarded scope included the combined demolition of both the Assembly Frame and Paint packages, as well as the Phase II Assembly Frame Demolition, all while maintaining uninterrupted production operations within the plant.
The demolition required the removal and transfer of nearly 47 million pounds of scrap steel, resulting in over 2,200 truckloads of material. With approximately 90 personnel engaged at peak and nearly 80,000 total contractor labor hours, the project demanded high levels of coordination and execution across multiple disciplines. Importantly, the demolition zones comprised nearly half of the plant’s original production footprint, necessitating detailed planning and close integration with ongoing operations to eliminate Line 2 areas without affecting production continuity.
Scope of Work:
Demolition of 16-acre plant section while maintaining live production. Removed 47M lbs of steel.
Key Challenges & Solutions:
- Live Production: Segmented and controlled demolition zones.
- Subcontractor Coordination: Oversight of 8 subcontractors, 90 workers.
Equipment Utilized:
- 8–300-ton cranes
- Excavators
- Forklifts
- Aluminum gantries
