Scope of Work:
Custom rigging of switchgear cabinets without lifting lugs. Created engineered lifting devices and modified methods per site constraints.
Key Challenges & Solutions:
5,000 lb exterior switchgear cabinets arrived without lifting lugs. Manufacturer specifications required lifting from below with a forklift, but on-site conditions necessitated crane lifting. The proposed “basket” lift posed safety risks due to the inability to mechanically secure the equipment to rigging slings.
PSC organized coordination meetings with the manufacturer, GC, and Owner to demonstrate safety concerns via mock forklift lifts. Two solutions were presented: Solution was to “Choke” the cabinets with rigging slings for a secure crane lift. PSC executed the lift safely and on schedule.
